02 MES systems

An MES that collects machine data by itself instead of relying on paper and spreadsheets.

I build MES systems tailored to a specific plant: from counting parts and downtime on one line to full production tracking with OEE, order management, material flow and ERP integration. In C#/.NET, on SQL Server, with data straight from the controllers.

What is included

  1. 01

    Process and data analysis

I define what should be measured, where the signals come from (PLC, sensors, scanners, operator) and which decisions the data should support.
  2. 02

    MES design and development

Operator panel, order and part registration, downtime with reasons, scrap, shifts, material flow, reports and exports. Desktop applications and system services in C#/.NET.
  3. 03

    PLC integration

Reading counters, states and alarms from PLCs via OPC UA and S7 communication. Without touching the machine logic unless it is needed.
  4. 04

    Database and external systems

Data model in SQL Server, OEE and shift reports, management views, data exchange with ERP and other systems.
  5. 05

    Deployment and support

Commissioning on the floor, operator training, a stabilisation period and further development as needed.

What you get

  • A working system with source code and documentation
  • A data model and reports agreed with production, not imposed
  • Integration with controllers and existing systems
  • Training for operators and maintenance
  • A clear roll-out plan for further lines

Technologies I use

  • C# / .NET
  • WinForms / WPF
  • Windows Services
  • Entity Framework
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • OPC UA
  • S7 communication
  • TCP/IP
  • Siemens SIMATIC S7

Frequently asked questions

How much does a custom MES cost?

Production tracking on one line with OEE and reports is usually a project of a few weeks. The cost depends on the number of machines, the communication method and the reporting scope. After a short call I give a range, after analysis a fixed quote.

Will it replace our ERP?

No. The MES sits between the machines and the ERP: it collects shop-floor data in real time and passes to the ERP what the ERP needs, such as production confirmations and material consumption.

Do we need to replace controllers or machines?

Usually not. Newer controllers expose data via OPC UA or S7. Older machines are connected through additional input modules or counters, without changing their control.

Who maintains the system afterwards?

You receive the code, documentation and training. I can also keep developing and maintaining the system under a service agreement, depending on your needs.

Have a line, a machine or data that should talk to each other?

Describe in a few sentences what does not work today or what you want under control. I will tell you whether and how it can be done, no strings attached.
